This is a long overdue update about The Privilege of the Sword. It is going to suffer for my having taken too long about writing it up, sadly, and it is of course going to contain full spoilers for both this book as quite reasonably the one that came before it (Swordspoint). So be aware of that going in!

So, despite my previous post, I decided to try using a chip pan for the first time today. I used to be afraid of frying pans and yet I've gotten accustomed to those, is a chip pan not the next logical step? I've seen my dad use it enough times, I pestered him for guidance and advice and I gave it a shot.

Oil everywhere. I don't even know what I did wrong, most pathetically of all. I didn't overfill with chips (quite the opposite), and yet it just bubbled out everywhere, right down onto the lit stove. I can't believe it didn't catch fire. Not being flippant either, I literally can not believe that it didn't catch fire. I don't know what I might have done to deserve that blessed fortune, but I'm tremblingly grateful.

This all played out on plurk, of course, in typically brash overwraught embarrassing terms. sigh. I should be banned.
