aestivalis: aeris looks at the highwind; she hopes she may get to fly in it someday (ffvii) (⌈on our way⌋)

Fel is playing Disco Elysium and those trousers are totally labelled "God-ass"

It's been many many years coming, but at last, after a lot of planning and discussion... it looks like I'll be moving to Canada by the end of this year. Moving to Canada by the end of this year!! Wow. Just typing it feels so huge, even though I've said it dozens and dozens and dozens of times by now.

Fel is from Canada, of course, so what we're really doing is finally returning to her homestead after living here on British shores these past ten years. I've lived in a few different parts of the UK throughout my life—born in Cornwall, then Cambridge, then various returns to different parts of the South-West—but this will be the first time I've lived in another country entirely. And I do not know when we might ever return! Or where we might end up living next! And this is honestly a foolish line of abstract questioning because getting Canada lined up has been a logistical nightmare despite Fel literally being a citizen of the place, and also oh my god I'm moving to Canada???

It's a lot to think about! I'm excited, and I'm terrified—for the things that will be far away, rather than the things I'll be facing directly. I've begun to miss things I haven't said goodbye to yet. I'm imagining all kinds of futures and all kinds of ventures, and it feels like we're in a bit of a strange liminal space right now where there's so much that needs to be taken care of but also it isn't quite time for anything to happen. Honestly? I'm just dreadful at administration. The sooner December comes and we're sitting on a plane, the better my headspace will be!

So that's the big news, I suppose! I've started wearing glasses again for the first time since university, on account of... y'know, being told by a specialist that I need them. It's taken a few weeks to stop feeling dizzy and uncomfortable every time I put them on, but at this point they feel just fine! I'm really supposed to use them for "concentration tasks", but with the amount of screen use I engage with day on day, they quite often stay for hours and hours at a time. Also I always thought my eye problems were fairly isolated, but apparently the lazy muscle in my left eye is hereditary via my father's family line! Who knew! Also there's a history of cataracts, so that's cool 8)

Here's hoping it never becomes an issue?!

Work is still ticking along just fine, though I'll have to actually hand my notice in pretty soon. They're all aware of what's coming, though, and have been for months. I'm honestly so lucky to work somewhere so genial and supportive, and I'm going to miss it a lot. It's a shame that their references probably won't hold as much weight in Canada as they might have elsewhere in the UK, but I'm decently confident I'll find employment soon enough. (There is no way this laissez faire attitude could ever come back to haunt me!)

I'm also looking at volunteering with Covid-19 vaccinations again! Specifically at a local centre focused on boosters for the vulnerable. ... Of which I am one, and have already had my follow-up shot, hahaha. It feels strange to still be considered vulnerable enough to warrant priority vaccination while also being well enough to work a public-facing job and to volunteer as a steward at a vaccination site. I'm glad, though. I loved volunteering back at the start of the year, and I'm excited to have the opportunity to do it again, even if it'll only be for a month or so.

Because then we're moving! to! Canada!!!!

In other news, more fandom-related news, I actually played the Arydn DLC! Like... a month or two ago at this point, oops. I really do have things to say about it, though! Because boy oh boy was there some stuff in there. Some of it good, some of it bad, and some of it truly, truly bonkers. I don't suppose I'd want it any other way, really! So perhaps, just perhaps, I'll update about that at some point. Maybe even... some point kinda sooooon. (ish.)

End of the year, wow so soon! :0

I, too, hope the eye thing never becomes an issue. Hope the volunteering goes well!

And ahhaaha I still haven't played the Ardyn DLC, but I probably should. It's so controversial but I AM PREPARED, it's been years now.
