Wow, how about an update about Fire Emblem: Three Houses? How about my thoughts on my very first playthrough of the Crimson Flower route of Fire Emblem: Three Houses? How about ONLY SPECULATION OF WHICH PAIRED ENDINGS I MIGHT AIM FOR?
I am finally playing the Crimson Flower route of FE3H, spending some time with the Black Eagle House and getting to know Edelgard and friends! The first time I played through I went with the Golden Deer, and after that I followed Dimitri and the Blue Lion House. But it's finally time to go and see what's going on with the Empire proper, and having taken almost a year off from playing the same I'm really excited to be right back in it.
But this update is going to be largely spoiler-free, as I'm just gonna speculate a little about which characters I would like to enjoy paired endings together. This is also my first playthrough making use of the DLC characters, so I'll be including the Ashen Wolves as well! Who are a delight, by the way. I'm super glad I invested in them.
SO, Byleth first, and I have no idea where I'm going with her to be honest. I picked female Byleth with the thought that I'd do the obvious thing and pair her up with Edelgard, but now that the route is under way I'm not sure if that's really what I want to do. I'm mostly not interested in Byleth as a silent protagonist, and generally feel happy enough to pair her/him off with someone I'm not invested in seeing linked up with someone else. And in the case of Edelgard, I'm leaning quite strongly toward trying to get her paired ending with Lysithea!
Lysithea is one of two characters I've recruited into the Black Eagles House for this playthrough, and I picked her specifically because I wanted to see what her support with Edelgard was like. So far I haven't seen much of it though! I suspect I need to wait until Big Spoilers happen before they'll be able to progress their interactions any further. That being said, I've progressed her with Balthus and now I'm starting to think I might give them a paired ending instead? Although then I'd miss out on Balthus/Yuri, which is the good shit right there. GEEZ, this post is not getting me any closer to answers at all.
Let's talk about some things that are more locked down. Mercedes and Jeritza is definitely an end goal for this run, since that support is a Crimson Flower exclusive. I have her recruited, now it's just a matter of bidding my time until they can begin interacting. I'm also 99% sure I'm going for Linhardt and Hapi together—I've really enjoyed their support conversations so far! No idea what their shared ending is actually like, but I imagine them taking life very easy and being very relaxed and uninvolved with the larger world, which will suit them both just fine I'm sure. We'll see how it turns out.
Constance is actually another one I wouldn't mind putting with Edelgard, now that I think about it. Geez. And Edelgard seems to have endings with both Manuela and Hanneman, which is amazing. I always want more content with those two. I might try to get The Forbidden Dorothea/Hanneman ending, simply because it's forbidden and therefore enticing. Hanneman and Manuela have only just begun lending their assistance to the Black Eagle House, though, so I haven't seen much of their interactions with the BE class yet. Maybe there's a new favourite interaction for me and I'm just about to stumble into it, who knows!
Regardless, I'm not sure at all what I'm doing about Ferdinand, Hubert, Bernie, or Caspar yet. I'm waiting to see how the Hubert and Ferdinand support line continues before deciding whether I want to push toward their shared ending. I honestly thought I'd be all over Ferdinand considering how much I love Lorenz, but actually I've found him pretty off-putting so far. Here's hoping the later halves of his various story beats warm me to him a little.
What I do know, without a doubt, is that I now have over 170 hours on Fire Emblem: Three Houses and I still have a sizeable amount of gameplay left to explore, never even mind intentionally replaying routes that I've already seen before. I wasn't sure how much I'd like FE3H going in—the last few Fire Emblem games weren't great for me—but I've really loved this game and its huge cast of characters. It was good to me when I was sick, and it's been good to me in the months and months since. And I think... I am going to go and play some more right now!
