every time I update about this, a distracting phonecall occurs

This is a Radiant Historia update, because I would like to try and keep up with them! I have progressed both timelines into their third chapter, how to spoiler warn... in one timeline I am camping in a very pretty cave, the other I have not properly begun. Is that still too vague? Tough luck, we're going in, and the spoilers are HEAVY.

So obviously first I have to say is

ROSCHHHH

I MEAN I KNOW I CAN GO TO THE OTHER TIMELINE AND FIX THIS. I AM BEING ENCOURAGED TO. But sob! Dear Rosch! Slain! At Stocke's hand! And ahh, it's so interesting to me to consider the ramifications of all of this on Stocke as an individual, because he knows he has the potential to travel through alternating histories and return to set points within the chronology of events. He has the potential to rectify tragedies like this one, where his own values were forced to clash with those of his dearest friend. He can fix this, find a way to positively broaden Rosch's view such that he'll greater understand the stakes and act true to his own perception of the situation rather than in favour of the rigid code his corrupt kingdom has long since ceased deserving. long sentence. Stocke can do that, and this will never have happened within accepted history.

But he'll remember. He'll still have done it, will even continue to bear the wounds of such an encounter. And I just find that concept fascinating, just this degree of repetition toward an ideal future and where that ultimately leaves Stocke's state of mind. I mean, Stocke handles things admirably, I think. He is a fantastically level and competent protagonist. But it's such an engaging idea to me. The different things it could do to a person. So much potential for abuse, so much potential for anguish, for dehumanisation of others or even a dehumanisation of self. How can you relate to the rigid suffering of those trapped within the flow of time, knowing yourself able to step in and out at leisure, able to tweak and perfect any thing you feel might have been done better?

I suppose it is a good thing that Stocke is so remarkable. But then, he was surely selected for this very purpose. Well, that and we've been getting allusions that there's even more to him than we yet know, but I'm going to call it part and parcel of the same thing.

Anyway! So, since last time I updated, Kiel has indeed suffered the death I predicted him. SORT OF FEEL BAD ABOUT THAT NOW, but that is the way it goes when you are earnest mook on a warfront. You're either dead, a perky girl, or Thilan. Aht has joined my party in both timelines now, so I suppose I better get used to her (being said perky girl, she probably isn't going anywhere). And, oh! My google spoiler did... well, not happen yet, but a triggered the beginning of a sequence called 'Assassination of Dias' and THAT was the phrase google spat at me. I feel much much better now that those words have shown up in the game as well. WELL HE BE ASSASSINATED? I DON'T KNOW. But I am now at a place of neutral knowledge again and that really pleases me.

What else can I talk about? Rosch continues to be wonderful, Stocke is wonderful, Sonja is wonderful, their relationships are all wonderful, I am infinitely more invested in the timeline directly involving them than in t'other. This is a shame, because of all the obvious reasons. I have to do both timelines, I would rather be invested equally! And one timeline has Princess Eruca, for whom I am feeling largely positive so far? I think I am going to like her, I am certainly very prepared to. I enjoy her design a great deal! I was pretty wary at first, she seemed like a downgrade in terms of battle utility, but a bit of equipment and a little time has already seen some improvement. And I like her hand-to-hand/rifle combination, nothing like that logic to warm me to someone! (But really, it may be ridiculous but it's very dashing. A dashing lady~)

Oh, that scene with Stocke infiltrating Hugo's office and being confronted by Heiss? That sort of gave me a boner. I KNOW THAT'S REALLY INAPPROPRIATE HAHAHA, I guess it goes to show that even the most sinister nose can't get in the way of my creeping. I am worried about Raul, he got left behind during that whole mess. I feel like he can take care of himself, but I bet life is about to get really difficult for him. Please be safe, beautiful Raul.

This game keeps implying that Selvan and Dias are sleeping together, by the way. What? It's been doing no such thing? SCANDALOUS LIES. I have seen nothing that convinces me anything otherwise.

So, theories? At first (like, before opening the box at first) I assumed Eruca would probably ultimately become Stocke's romantic partner. Meeting her quickly had me doubting that, however, and soon cast the potential of his being related to her - perhaps a brother? Now that is seeming shadier as well, since they outright spoke to one another about how she had an older brother but her now deceased father King Victor had said brother executed. Either shenanigans are afoot, or Stocke simply looks similar and that is that? Well, 'that is that', they are clearly going to have an important bond but it might not be romantic or tied by blood.

So, options! One, they will become romantically involved. Funny how I find actual incest preferable to pseudo-incest, this would be vaguely uncomfortable to me, hahaha. Two, he actually is her brother? This is a time travel story, who knows what crazy antics might yet be afoot? Not at all sure about that idea, haha, but I won't rule it out? I feel reluctant to call their similar looks & this emphasis on similarity to be a mere coincidence, at any rate. BUT WE SHALL SEE?

Other "theory", if you can even call it that, more like speculations really... but anyway, I wonder if Raynie will actually get to be a love interest for Stocke? You get the vibe sometimes that she wouldn't mind it, and I am always so pleasantly surprised by Stocke's easy depth of feeling toward her and Marco both. I love how a quiet somewhat taciturn character like him is being shown as so completely engaged, emotionally involved, trusting of his comrades. He doesn't need to change, or learn anything, the people he meets quickly grow to respect and admire him because he's so genuine, invested, and it doesn't take a false countenance to make that apparent. He is introspective and subdued, and also passionate and involved. It pleases me!

But anyway, so, wonder if he and Raynie will eventually become involved? I'm not too sure I'd mind, really, I like Raynie well enough. Just so long as he can still sleep with Rosch and Sonja then I don't really mind anything too much.

This update feels much less intelligent than the last one, haha. I finished Final Fantasy VIII by the way! It was ridiculous until the very bitter end, but I enjoyed fighting Omega Weapon.

Attempt 1. When an attack does 9998 damage to the party, it actually does 9998 damage to the party. No, it doesn't reduce them to 1HP automatically. It does 9998 damage to the party. Game Over.

Attempt 2. Forgot to junction Death spells to status protection, two out of three of my party instantly vulnerable to Lv 5 Death spell. Oops. Far from ideal parameters, but I'm not about to roll over without a fight. Make pretty good progress despite disability! Right up until Terra Break. Massive damage everywhere, how do you survive that? Game Over.

Attempt 3. Only way to survive Terra Break that I can think of is to invoke temporary invulnerability. I haven't trained Rinoa so do not have easy access to her invincibility limit break, would rather avoid training up a whole new character. Inventory reveals... two Hero's. That gives me... a very limited window.

Go into battle, Death correctly junctioned now, use my Hero's on Irvine and Squall - sorry Zell, nothing personal. Immediately discover that invulnerable characters are pretty much incorporeal - I am now unable to cast Aura on them, and am thus denied the extremely necessary slew on limit breaks required to beat this bad boy down. Hero's expire, Terra Break. Game Over.

Attempt 4. Cast Aura's first this time, then use Hero's. Very reasonable effort, but Hero's still ultimately expire too soon. Terra Break. Game Over.

Attempt 5. Use one Hero on Squall, Irvine and Zell battle valiantly and get revived when the worst occasionally happens. Auras, Hastes, Meltdown applied, that pair spend a lot of time on 1HP because it allows for longer limit break times and their ATB bars are moving fast enough that I can get away with it quite safely, particularly with promise of invulnerable Squall. First Hero eventually fades, Squall KO'd by Light Pillar before I can reapply. Much mad dashing, eventually surrender to panic and apply Hero to Irvine instead. Not first choice, but better an invulnerable sniper than another restart.

Limit breaks forever, lots of AP Ammo from Irvine, tons of Duel time for Zell, fairly good number of Lionheart's from Squall. Zell rounds it off, and victory is mine! NOT TOO BAD AT ALL.

I'm mostly just pleased that it was such a progression of tactics, haha. I mean, each attempt had it's own individual hair-raising moments, no way around that, but fact of matter is I got to assess and adjust each time and ultimately reached victory. SO I'M COOL NOW, RIGHT? That is what I'm getting from this. I'm really cool.

Well this is another really long and silly update, haha. I'M CALLING IT A SUCCESS TBH.

I think Radiant Historia just does this fantastic job of... combining typical aspects and typical character types with amazing writing and characterisation to make no one really... hateable? Dislikable, even, I might go so far to say. I am not fond of Marco and Raynie either, but there's really only one point in the whole game where I actively dislike Raynie. :|a

I am avoiding all the Radiant Historia spoilers! Which is probably a good thing in the long run, but it does mean I have to pass up reading most of this entry... And then there is the pain of curiosity. WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH HUGE MAN, SORA AND ROUND FLUFFY THING?

I'm always impressed by how you can play battles tactically. Makes my method of jabbing buttons and shouting look pretty incompetent. :
